About Neal
Neal Harris brings 40 years of clinical and holistic experience to his counseling work, helping people cope with stress, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship and intimacy concerns, LGBT issues, trauma and abuse, and life transitions.
Background and approach
He blends traditional counseling training with mind-body approaches to support clients facing chronic illness, caregiving stress, career and parenting challenges, ADHD, self-esteem struggles, sleep problems, anger, and compassion fatigue. Neal is an LCPC licensed in Illinois and has a background that includes international training and long-standing involvement in holistic education.
He led a holistic education center for 25 years, taught workshops nationally since 1985, and studied therapeutic traditions in the United States, China, and India. His complementary practices have included relaxation and meditation training, Reiki teaching and therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique, Graphotherapy, and targeted integrative tools intended to support psychological and spiritual dimensions of healing.
He is the author of Pocket Stress Manager & Labyrinth Guide and created the Earth-Wisdom Labyrinth in Elgin, IL, along with other labyrinth designs and resources. Neal has been featured on national television and in magazines, and he has led research on his Intuipath® labyrinth design related to ADHD.
His approach aims to integrate counseling methods with practical mind-body practices to address the whole person.
Integrative Therapy Approaches for Online Care
Neal often uses Attachment-Based Therapy to explore patterns in relationships and how early bonds influence current emotional responses; this work can help people understand trust, closeness, and communication difficulties. He also integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to identify and shift unhelpful thoughts and behaviors, which is useful for anxiety, depression, sleep problems, and coping with life changes. When trauma or deeply stored memories are a central concern, he may draw on EMDR principles to help process distressing memories and reduce their emotional intensity.
Choosing the right therapeutic approach is collaborative. Neal works with each person to assess needs, goals, and preferences, and he tailors methods from these traditions to fit the client rather than applying a single technique rigidly. This cooperative process helps determine whether attachment work, CBT strategies, EMDR elements, or a mix of methods will be most helpful.
Online sessions are offered by licensed professionals through video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or text-based messaging, providing flexibility for scheduling and accessibility for those with busy lives or mobility limits. These options make it feasible to continue consistent therapeutic work while accommodating travel, caregiving, or geographic distance.
