What is listed here
The directory currently holds 1,028 therapists, organised across 77 topics and 21 types of therapy. Every listed therapist holds an active Illinois licence.
Some of them live and work in other states. That is deliberate, not an error: an Illinois licence is what allows a therapist to work with someone in Illinois, and for online sessions their own location makes no practical difference to you. Filtering by where a therapist happens to live would have hidden people you are perfectly free to see.
Sessions are online, so there are no offices and no travel. Where you are in the state does not limit who you can choose.
Where the information comes from
Therapist details - credentials, licences, years in practice, focus areas and therapeutic approaches - come from BetterHelp, the platform these therapists work through. We do not collect it from therapists directly and we do not verify licences ourselves.
The written summaries on each profile are produced with the help of AI, working only from the facts above. They are written not to add anything that is not in the source information - no invented specialisms, diagnoses, availability or results. If you spot something that looks wrong, please tell us and we will correct it.
How listings are ordered
Therapists currently taking new clients are shown first. Beyond that, ordering is not for sale: no therapist pays to appear, to rank higher, or to be featured. There are no ratings or reviews on this site, because we have no reliable source for them and would rather show nothing than invent a score.
How this site makes money
ILGive.com is free to use and carries no advertising. When you click through to a therapist and sign up, this site will earn a commission from BetterHelp at no extra cost to you.
That arrangement pays for the directory, and it is worth knowing about, so it is disclosed at the top of every page rather than buried here. It does not change who is listed or the order they appear in.
